Salomé String Quartet: Take Note Ensemble

Saturday 7th March 2020, 1:00 pm

Beethoven and the Russian connection

Alexander Borodin ‘Nocturne’ from String Quartet No. 2
Dimitri Shostakovich Two pieces for String Quartet
Ludvig van Beethoven String Quartet No. 9 in C major, Op. 59, (‘Razumovsky’), No. 3, (“Eroica”)

Beethoven wrote the three Razumovsky string quartets in 1806 as the result of a commission by the Russian Ambassador in Vienna. The third quartet in this set is partnered here with music from two Russian composers – Shostakovich and Borodin.

Take Note is the Chiltern Arts Young Artist Platform, discovering and championing outstanding young ensembles. The Salomé Quartet is a multinational ensemble formed in 2016 by four prizewinning students of the Royal College of Music in London. In 2017 the quartet won the RCM String Quartet Competition, Helen Just & Susan Cornell Prize and the Sacconi Quartet Prize, and was invited to be the Quartet in Residence at Oundle School.
