Seven characters with complicated love lives meet an eighteen-year-old composer full of imagination and musical genius. Here, the combination of Nina Brazier’s skilful direction, Laura Stanfield‘s highly-praised design and Eamonn Dougan’s expert conducting make for a truly stunning evening.
The Garden of Disguises, in its ‘new, witty translation’ (Opera Now) is full of lyrical beauty, human foibles and dramatic intrigue. With two characters in thinly-veiled disguises, and lovers and ex-lovers crossing paths at every turn, this is an opera of secrets and lies, but also of forgiveness and reconciliation – and these are qualities that Mozart can express in music like none other.
