Event Navigation
Fenella Humphreys’, winner of the prestigious BBC Music Magazine 2018 Instrumental Award, presents a programme taken from her award-winning project Bach2theFuture.
Fritz Kreisler – Recitativo and Scherzo-Caprice op. 6 (1911)
JP von Westhoff – Suite no 5 in D minor (1682)
Adrian Sutton – Arpeggiare Variations (2015)
Biber – Passacaglia (1676)
Paganini – Caprice no. 24 (1817?)
– Interval –
Bach – Partita no. 3 in E major BWV 1006 (1720)
Cheryl Frances-Hoad – Suite no. 1 (2014)
Ysaye – Sonata no. 2 op. 27 no 2 (1923)
In this programme centred on Bach’s Partita no. 3 in E major, hear works that inspired Bach (Biber and Westhoff) alongside works that have been in turn inspired by Bach – including Cherly Frances-Hoad’s Suite no. 1, commissioned by Fenella specially for this project to parter the third Partita.
“This gutsy and exhilarating disc completes violinist Fenella Humphreys’s laudable project to commission and record six companion pieces to Bach’s Partitas. Featuring splendid new compositions by Sally Beamish, Peter Maxwell Davies and Adrian Sutton alongside works by Bach, Ysaÿe, Stravinsky and Sibelius, the disc is performed with great precision and verve.”
